Seek the Light

Stephen Devereux is convinced that the boogeyman, famous for targeting sleep-deprived souls, is out to get him. After all, it did put his older brother in a wheelchair a few months ago, and now that Stephen's been missing so much sleep, he's the perfect victim. The storm is breaking outside, and Stephen is getting tired. Will he find a way to stay awake, or suffer the wrath of a childhood fable?

* WARNING! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS! *

"After my rather disastrous day, I felt in the mood for a little horror, this piece drew my attention and it did not disappoint. I rarely give out five star reviews and I only do so when there are absolutely no comments I can think to make for improvement, as in this case. This really is a very well written story, the atmosphere, mood, tone and the suspense worked together perfectly. I could find not a single mistake in the whole story. The sentences were easy to read and flowed well, keeping up a very nice pace throughout.

Your description of the storm was very vivid and worked wonderfully to further amplify the tension and suspense, and despite the main character being a broken wreak of a man, I really took to him as a character and really felt his predicament and fear and his swiftly declining mental state.

I did see the end coming, but it in no way disappointed me. The letter from his brother at the end is a great touch and tied up the whole story and the real series of events perfectly and yet concisely.

I really did enjoy reading this piece. I can see how much effort and skill has gone into it. Really very well done with this. You deserve the five stars. Keep it up.

Happy writing!"
