"I read these poems with amazement.  How wonderful to know that a young lad growing up could capture the dawning of a new day, the darkness of the night, even the roughness of asphalt on bare feet.  As I read these poems, I found myself walking with the young Poet, wondering about creation, laughing with others at the gruff old man, the magic of a wizard, dreams of worlds, and the future with the young Poet.

 

As a schoolteacher of creative writing and a writer/poet, I found this collection of poems filled with depth of thought, beauty with descriptive phrases, gentle messages, all springing from how a young lad saw the world.  The Poet has included poems written over the period from early teenage to becoming a man and it is marvelous to see the progression of his writing with a true poetic heart.  He has the capacity to visualize then choose words that show the depth of his poetic mind as he shared experiences and thoughts learned from nature, people and his own life.

 

“Gray clouds passes, releasing the day…” presents the gradual coming of a storm in “Wizard of [Byran]” as the “drought was quenched the kingdom.”  With artistic zeal, the Poet fills his poems with beautiful description drawing forth emotions, sounds and images from the page to the reader’s life.

 

Not a children’s book, the Poet shares stories of unfaithful wives, the heartbroken son choosing to not be like his father’s spousal abuse, and other stories of human frailties and undesirable actions.  His poems often tell the story of man’s inhumanity in a way that gives regard to the choices people can make for the betterment of humankind.  He chooses to address critical social and human issues by showing both the best and the worst of activities with a message suggesting improvement required in response often heard in the human cry, “Can’t we all get along.”

 

This book of poetry presents the world with a message from the heart of a child and a man, a message of both beauty and the ugliness of some who live in homes among all of us.  It is a must read for any person seeking heart-rendering, honesty, beauty and the marvels in the universe.
