I Almost Had You

I almost had you,

you were within my embrace.

I’d moved the great mountains;

I’d pulled ahead in the race.

You were right there before me,

and it broke me in two,

when you found a fresh pastime

in somebody new.

And as the four chambers

of my heart fill with woe,

I’ll drown in the sorrow,

and you will not know.

Trust me, it’s better

that you don’t…
