Brown Eyes
There is a boy,
and he is beautiful.
Full brown eyes,
and plump lips worth kissing;
You
see him, and he sees you,
but not into you.
He doesn't even know who he is yet.
His soul is young,
is searching, and looking forward
to finding out.
There was a man,
equally beautiful.
Full brown eyes,
and lips you were kissing;
He
saw you, and might have seen
into you (through you).
But he didn't want you to know him.
His soul was hard,
had tired, and looked forward
to nothing.
There was a time,
when you looked forward
to everything...
to anything!
...letting blissful ignorance
lead you...
when you could still explore,
like the boy explores.
Now you look forward,
not looking at anything—
wondering what to look at...
wondering if it's too far away.
The boy would make you
wish the man
would let you go; to find some
other boy, who wants to know
you—
Wants you
to know him.
But the boy, too, makes you
miss the man.
The man who knows who he is,
who he wants to be...
He—
the boy,
doesn't want you.
